2012: Steve Harvey’s Talk Show Debuts Big

A year after signing on with NBCUniversal, Steve Harvey launched his daytime talk show on September 4, 2012, and audiences were waiting for him.

Steve Harvey opened with a 1.5 rating in the country’s metered markets, up 50 percent from what its time slots had averaged a year earlier, making it the best talk-show debut in those markets since Dr. Oz in 2009. Taped in Chicago, the show mixed relationship advice, audience stories and Harvey’s signature reactions.

Combined with Family Feud and his radio show, it made the former stand-up one of the most familiar faces on American television.
