Recently a black tow truck driver was awarded $7500 when he sued a Arkansas police officer for using the “N” word and violating his civil rights.
Just last night I turned on the t.v and comedian Chris Rock was saying… cracker this honkey that.
Can I sue him? I bet he has alot more money than the police officer in Arkansas
Because he is a entertainer its ok?
What about Michael Richards “Kramer”, look what happened to him. Why shouldnt it be the same for Chris Rock?
I dont really care what he says about his own people, its his comments about my people that offend me.
No white entertainer can use racial slurs against blacks, so why can black entertainers use slurs against whites?
Difference between entertainment and someone paid to uphold the law
There is no reason why you can’t sue him.
You wont win, because he did not say that about you. And unless you can prove that what he said somehow caused you harm all you can win is an apology, at most.
No, because he has committed no tortious act against you which gives rise to liability. Even if he had, you’d be hard put to prove that Rock’s utterances damaged you in a compensable way.
I don’t see how you will make that hold up in a court of law because he is an entertainer, and that is what he does. It is for entertainment purposes only, much like a phone psychic.
Not to mention, he has freedom of speech. If you don’t like him, then don’t listen! The difference between him and the cop, is that the cop has a professional duty to uphold the law. Just like you wouldn’t find it acceptable for a Dr. to make a racial slur. Also, you should also be aware of the fact that Chris Rock uses the word n*gger, as well. He is not just singeling out the white race. If you plan on trying to sue him, then I guess you also better put other comedians on your list such as Carlos Mencia, because he makes in fun of ALL of the races. And you just can’t take it to personally. I guess it comes down to the context in which you’re saying it, and what your role in society is. So, if you were to attempt to sue him I don’t think you would get that far, not to mention I’m sure that he can afford a better attorney then the average Joe.
You may not agree with this, but it is the reality of the situation.
Why not focus your attention on other things that are a bit more serious, and you really CAN make a difference about?
When a police officer uses a racial slur, that is evidence that his reason for whatever he is doing is racial. An effective lawsuit, however, requires more. One must prove that the officer, acting under color of law, took some specific action that deprived the person of some specific constitutional right, AND that the action was based on race, etc. If Chris Rock acts under color of law and arrests you or uses excessive force, or denies you some recognized right, and does so based on race, then feel free to sue. Otherwise, educate yourself before typing.
