Can you compare Don Imus to Chris Rock?

Chris Rock
Mary asked:

I just heard a stand-up routine by Chris Rock and he has got to be one of the most racist persons out there. He was praising rappers and using the “N” word throughout his entire act. He said so many offensive things about blacks and whites, but nobody is going after him, are they? He kept referring to whites as crackers. What is a cracker?

  1. Of course you can compare them. They both do the same thing for a living except one gets in trouble for saying the N word while the other can get away with it.

  2. A cracker is a racist term used to refer to whitee or a white person,

There are lots of black on white and black on black racist, please look at sharpton and jackson are prime examples of black on white racist.

  3. Yeah but he is black. In this country minorities can get away with ANYTHING because the oppressive white man has held him down.. has nothing to do with their ability to GET OVER IT… and get an education no no lets blame someone for our failures and IF they say something.. heaven forbid!!..

  4. Don Imus interviews important political people, chris rock goes on a stage and tells jokes. There’s a difference.

  5. Compare them? Okay….Imus is an egotistical idiot and Rock is funny.
A cracker is a (supposed) slur against whites. It never really caught on and most whites don’t care if they’re called crackers anyway. Most find it funny rather then insulting.

BTW…I’m a cracker and I would watch Chris Rock anytime, I find his humor quite relevant and funny.

  6. well you know it’s horrible cause alot of black people find him funny. he pretty much slanders his own race alot and they accept that. that’s the way it’s been. but if somebody who is white says stuff like that oh boy watch out. it’s not right. it’s understandable but it’s not right. i think black people need to relax. white people know that black people say stuff that are equally offensive but we don’t care. black people are still uptight about being in slavery and what has happened in the course of history up to the point of today. like what i said before i understand that but just relax. take a deep breath and disregard it instead of making a big deal about it.. black people will never be free of racism as any other race including white people so…..
*that is true …chris rock makes some good points and he does it in a fashion that is likeable and funny don imus on the other hand tends to just say hurtful things. he tries to be funny but he goes the wrong way about it. he’s like one of them kids that you used to hate in school. he’d sit there and make people laugh by basically making fun of people and hurting their feelings. chris rock does what he can to curb people from being offended, imus doesn’t.

  7. Well he is African American…I think they have the OK to bash on their own race…..They seem to think it is

  8. There is a double standard in this country that allows unlimited behavior for some (you do the math) and zero tolerance for others. But what Imus said pertained to a particular group that did not deserve the degrading remarks. As far as Chris Rock is concerned, I think he’s a bigot and I personally boycott anything he does. And a “cracker” refers to the slave drivers “cracking” the whip.

  9. Chris Rock does a comedy routine that is not mean spirited. I’m white. I’ve heard his routine many times and I do not find it offensive.

What separates Imus and Chris Rock is that Imus is held up as a political spokesperson. He often has political guests on his program and frequently has political discussions. He represents a white majority population that in the not too distant past, horribly repressed the Black population. To allow a man like Imus to promote racism on such a forum is to allow the potential for that racism and repression to begin to creep back into our society. Racism is a right-wing attribute (as is quite obvious on this forum) and Imus speaks to that audience. He knew his audience would appreciate those comments and he was more than willing to cater to their racist whims. A decent society must put a man like Imus in his place.

  10. A “cracker” is a white person. A cracker who doesn’t know what a “cracker” is an extra-white person. And you can forget about your line of reasoning: if whites were allowed to use words like “niga” and “ho” and call one another “cracker” then black comedians would go out of business, having lost the patent on their primary source of material.

  11. You want a comparison?

If Chris Rock were to: refer to some successful, hard working, all white girl’s sport team as a bunch of “nasty blonde bimbo sluts” on national radio

    – I’m pretty sure people would decry his comment as highly inappropriate.

    EDIT:

BTW – the term “cracker” originated in Florida to describe white slave owners (whip-crackers)

  12. Have YOU ever seen a Dave Chapelle show? “The Niggar Family”, etc.

I would hope that shows like his would end all of this. When all people of any color use the words (N-word. J word, etc) it will become useless and meaningless.

And never forget that that a stand-up is speaking to the crowd that he is speaking to.

  13. Compare them? hmm…

First off, Chris Rock is in the comedy scene. People know he makes jokes like that and they watch him because they know what to expect and they ENJOY hearing him and laughing at the things he say.

Imus on the other hand isnt in the comedy scene, he doesnt have shows at comedy clubs as far as I know of and basically his hair is bad so for him call someone with “nappy” hair as “hos”, its just…let me put it this way: its like someone with an IQ level of 14 calling another person that messed up on a question in their calculus test “stupid”.
