Help me choose a name for my dog (or vote on the few I’ve picked)?

Jenniffer C asked:

I have a 7-8 month old male Border Collie/mix pup. He is so very cute, but mostly really smart!! He is a blondish color with Irish Spotting (white around neck, paws, tip of tail, and on his face w/ a stripe between his eyes over his head). I would like for him to have a two-syllable name that sounds intelligent.

My Mom chose “Toby” (but it might be too cutsy).
My husband chose “Chester” – my Mom disagrees and says it reminders her of Chester Cheetah or Chester the Molester …so it is out.

Here are a few I wrote down from internet searching:
Baron Benson Duncan Dudley Baxter Connor Ceasar Charlie Winston Murphy Gatsby Cabot

Do any of these sound good to you? What is your vote? Which ones aren’t great? Do you have any better suggestions?

Much appreciated!

  1. Winston, I think it sounds English and sophisticated, and thats the impression I get from Border Collies.

  2. The choice of a name for your pet is very personal. I will pass along a personal prejudice about pet naming: I don’t think pets should have names that are traditionally given to humans.
My dogs are named “Moon” & “Star”.

  3. i like duncan or winston best. i dont like dudley or gatsby or cabot.

i like calvin or zeke(even though its not 2 syllables) or chiron or cleve or huey (all three mean intelligence.

  4. A great name for a male dog would be Mr. Furley or just plain Furley. Dont ya think??

  5. my friend had a border collie/sheltie mix…he called him Titus..a very noble name,i thought..& affectionately called him..titey-whitey…..justathought

  6. Gatsby is nice..Good luck choosing.Hey,have you ask him to pick his name.Tell him one by one the names you like, when he turns and looks at you thats his name.Worked for me for all my dogs…
